At the beginning of my vegan life I´ve red a lot about that topic and collected many informations to weigh the pros and cons. Finally I couldn´t find any cons and I converted my diet from vegetarian to vegan. In this spirit I considered all my old bags and shoes with a douptful view and one day I have the idea to sorth them all out. I´ve thrown them all on a pile and it became a mountain which overtaxed me. I was sitting on the floor and watched this plently of former harm of animals and I didn´t know what to do.
I have to wear sackcloth and ashes cause I really have a lot of shoes.
Back to pile! Like I said, I was sitting on the floor and arrived at the descission to chuck all shoes and bags out. I crammed it in divers bin liners and went out to the dustbin. Your´re going to laugh, but the dustbin was to small. In this moment I realized that´s not the right way, cause it´s not conform to my wish to live sustainable life.
I went back to house and made a new plan. I build another pile with all shoes, which were in a perfect condition and decided to give them away. The Problem was, for me remained just three pairs and I asked myself: „which shoes could I wear now?“
I browsed around in all the vegan online shops and came to disentchantment. Just wanted to buy three or four new pairs and I had to pay ca. 400 Euros. At the moment it was to much and I became a little bit desperate. I didn´t wanna show Leather Shoes on my vegan blog.
I dithered a while and admit that I have stand to myself. I´m not living vegan for 10 years and before I decided to go vegan I buyed a lot of clothes, whichever not fills me with pride, but in hindsight I can not change my former consumerism.
Some of my shoes and bags, from which I know, I wouldn´t wear them really often, I`ve given away. Other I will wear till the day they`ll break and some get selled to buy new shoes in the vegan version.
Like this I´ve done it at least. I sold Dior and buyed No animal Killed. 🙂
Now I ask you, how do you think about leather?
